The welcome screen of the mystery Texas Instruments XX-X calculator reveals its identity.

This TI-83 Plus VSC Prototype calculator was manufactured in April 1998 by Inventec Corporation in
Taiwan. It uses a redesigned bottom shell of the housing to accommodate the ViewScreen connector.

This TI-83 Plus VSC Prototype calculator is powered by four AAA-sized cells and a CR1620 backup battery.

A small, carefully shielded PCB (printed circuit board) hosts some drivers between
the ViewScreen connector and the flexible cable reaching to the display PCB.

The PCB of this TI-83 Plus VSC Prototype manufactured in April 1998 looks more or less identical to the later TI-83 Plus calculator
and is centered around a Zilog Z80 CPU, an ASIC and two Memory chips for program and data.
